"I did? I - thank you. I mean - you're welcome," he says, almost fumbling
the pan he's washing. "I'm glad you liked them. I just - I found the
recipes in the library."
She nods, but the gesture is kind of pointless, since he's not looking. She
follows it with an affirmative sound. "And the--gloves. They're pretty. I
don't have anything like that." Maybe she should stop lingering in the
doorway. She isn't sure what else she's supposed to say, only that some
part of her wants to ask him about Mikodez and Alec's announcements, about
the new year and a party she might not have otherwise considered. Instead,
she says something else.
"You want help finishing up? I'm not doing anything."
"So do you," she says, almost surprised. "More than me." She has her
morning shift in the kitchen, her and Erskine and Ardyn, and true, that
sometimes crosses over into lunchtime. But aside from his shift, he helps
maintenance, she's seen him, and she's just--well, Ardyn is complicated,
but he's also an adult who doesn't need a babysitter. She's still trying to
figure him out. "But--okay. Just wanted to come say thank you." She turns
to go, hesitates again.
"Um, I saw Alec's announcement. Since you and him...um, does that mean
you're going?"
"Then, maybe--I'll, um. See you there? It's Mikodez's birthday, New Year's.
He asked if I'd go, I guess. I don't really...go to parties. Too many
people. But if you're going..." she trails off, not quite certain exactly
why this is difficult, just knowing that it is. It's just another barge
gathering. But also it's not 'just' anything, she thinks.

"Oh, I - I've not got much left to do," he says, hurriedly. "Besides, you - you work so hard anyway."

Credence's original plan was 'go if Shiro's going' but he has nowhere near the courage necessary to establish whether that's the case.
"I, um, yes. I guess I'll be - helping him."

The idea that Shiro's own rationale might have been 'go if Credence is going' is both thrilling and terrifying at once.
"Then I'll. See you there," he agrees, with somewhat more confidence than he's feeling.

"Yeah. Yeah, I'll--see you there." There should probably be less elation about that. It's not anything. But it certainly feels like a something.
